Types Of Bobbin For Brother Sewing Machine
There are mainly two models of bobbin for this sewing machine. And, they go by codes, such as one is SA156 and another is SFB: XA5539-151. If you need to buy a bobbin for this machine, you can just take these models’ code with you and buy the right kind of bobbin for your brother’s sewing machine.
Bobbin Model Differences Between Brother & Other Sewing Machine
Although all the sewing machines are the same from the fundamental mechanism, still they have some subtle differences. For example, the bobbin height of the brother sewing machine is 11.5 (7/16 inches). That is comparatively longer than the other types of bobbins. The other types of bobbins will not work properly in the brother sewing machine.
Threading The Bobbin
Once you got the right type of bobbin in your hand, you can start threading the bobbin by following the steps carefully-
Step 1
There’s a spool pin in your machine. Find that, and pull it upward completely. You will hear a click when it’s entirely raised.
Step 2
Now, you need to take a spool of thread for the bobbin. Set it in the spool spin, and keep the side of the spool that has the thread end in front of you (i.e., not on the opposite side of yours).
Caution
The thread will get entangled in the sewing process if it is in the wrong place, or you set it incorrectly.
Step 3
Now, hold the thread by your right hand and bring it towards you. Then pass it through the groove that you see in the top thread guide. Make sure the thread passed through the pre-tension disk of the thread guiding post.
Step 4
Next, take the bobbin and pass the thread-end through one of the small holes on the bobbin surface. Make sure you are taking through the inside, not starting from the outside.
Step 5
Now, you need the place the bobbin in the bobbin winder shaft. Then, push the shaft on the right side to secure the bobbin. Now, you have to turn the bobbin clockwise to align the projection on the shaft and the notch of the bobbin. Make sure your pull out 7-10 cm (3-4 inch) thread outside the hole of the bobbin.
Caution
You should pull the thread taut and hold the thread straight upward. If the thread is short and not pulled taut, there’s a possibility for you to get injured in the process of the thread being winded around the bobbin.
Step 6
You need to turn on the machine now. Be careful; while you are pressing the foot controller, don’t turn on the machine. Make sure you are pressing the foot controller to avoid injury because the machine can turn on unexpectedly.
Step 7
To wound the thread around the bobbin, hold the thread that coming from the bobbin hole. Then gently press the foot controller. Your bobbin will start to wound now.
But, you are going to do the whole thread in this step. This is mainly to wind the thread around the bobbin a little.
Step 8
Now, cut the excess thread by keeping 1cm (1/2) inch extended from the hole of the bobbin.
Caution
Please follow these steps carefully. If you don’t cut off the excess thread from the bobbin before winding the bobbin completely, when the thread will come to running low, it may get tangled around the bobbin. This can shatter the needle.
Step 9
Now, press the foot controller to start the actually threading. Don’t keep it pressed for the whole time, do it slowly, so you can see how thick the bobbin has got thread.
Step 10
Your bobbin will spin at a slower pace when it is about to be threaded fully. This is the indication of the taking of your foot from the foot controller.
Step 11
Now, you need to dismount the bobbin from the shaft. To do that, slide the bobbin shaft on the left side, and then take it out. Also, cut the thread to detach the bobbin from the spool of thread.
Your bobbin is the thread now! But there are a few more things you need to be aware of.
Tips
After you are done winding the thread around the bobbin, the handwheel will be turned. So, when you start the machine, you will hear a clicking sound, and it’s not a malfunction.
Don’t worry about the needle bar while sliding the bobbin shaft to the right side because it doesn’t move the needle bar.
More Cautions
If the bobbin is not winded accurately, it will cause the tension disk to get loosened. Also, an improperly threaded bobbin will cause the needle to break.
How Does a Poorly Threaded Bobbin Look like?
A nicely threaded bobbin will look fairly intact with the thread. But a badly threaded bobbin will look loosened with the thread in it. After completely threading the bobbin, if you think the thread looks loose on the bobbin, you should unwind it and repeat the whole threading process again.
Don’t feel lazy in this case because a poorly threaded bobbin will damage your machine. Also, it can put you through personal injuries. You don’t want that, do you?
Also, you should thread the bobbin when it is fully empty. If it looks partially wound, you should unwind or finish the whole roll then start with new threading.
